Maiko – Where to Eat?

As you might have heard, I’m from Columbia, SC but moved to Austin, Texas two years ago. For my first Where to Eat? column, I’ve decided to write about Maiko here in the great city of Austin.

Maiko is a Japanese Sushi Lounge off of West Sixth Street in the downtown area of Austin, Texas. Their menu is more than just pieces of raw fish, they include a plethora of in-house drink specials and hot grill items. In comparison to other Japanese restaurants in the Austin area, Maiko is one of the few, if not the only that includes a decent grill item menu.

I ate there pretty recent during their stupendous Happy Hour special. Maiko’s Happy Hour runs from 3-close Monday thru Thursday, 3-7 on Friday, Saturday 5-7, and Sunday 5-close. Their Happy Hour special includes discounted appetizers, sushi rolls, and drinks. You can easily take a date here and spend under $40, which is unheard of when eating out at a Japanese restaurant. The service is on point, the final dishes look as if they were serving during peak dinner hours, and the food is delicious. Overall I would give Maiko an A+ comparing to other Japanese/Sushi restaurants in Austin.

If you’re ever in the downtown area and are craving sushi or a quick Japanese bite, head over to Maiko, they will not disappoint.
