Alamo Drafthouse at Lakeline – Where to Go?

So I’ve come to realize that the Alamo Drafthouse is taking over the world, and I’m not complaining. Earlier, the Drafthouse opened a new location in Austin, Texas at Lakeline. This new Drafthouse location is the biggest they have built in the Austin area. Also, this location boasts a plethora of beers for all you recently self-claimed connoisseurs out there. Anyways, it seems Drafthouse has got the formula right it terms of comfort, logistics, menu selection, and did I forget anything else?

My only qualm with this location and please Drafthouse don’t hate me, the chairs are a bit too close together. When one goes to the Drafthouse one expects to eat, drink, and have fun while watching a movie (while respecting others of course). Every two seats have their own table, so those two respectable seats should be close but the next seat over is too close for comfort. Maybe adding another inch or two would suffice but this issue is not a deal breaker, or a reason to hate the Alamo Drafthouse.

Like I said, in terms of everything a movie theatre should be, the Alamo Drafthouse at Lakeline embodies all of that. I cannot wait to experience the new South Lamar location when it opens. I was a very satisfied customer after my recent experience.

Sushi Zushi – Where to Eat?

As of late, I have on a bit of a Sushi/Japanese food binge. After a great experience at Maiko, I’ve attempted another Japanese restaurant in the downtown area of Austin, Texas at Sushi Zushi. If you’re unfamiliar with Sushi Zushi, it is a sit down sushi and grill place.

Let me start off by saying it was a way less than stellar experience. This is your typical college dropout place of employment. The employees don’t show any emotion, the kitchen is very slow, and the atmosphere is okay at best. The only positive note of this place is that a lot of people don’t eat here, so it is easy to find a table on the weekend.

Overall, this place did not live to my already low expectations. So, don’t eat here unless you want to overpay for subpar service and food.

Maiko – Where to Eat?

As you might have heard, I’m from Columbia, SC but moved to Austin, Texas two years ago. For my first Where to Eat? column, I’ve decided to write about Maiko here in the great city of Austin.

Maiko is a Japanese Sushi Lounge off of West Sixth Street in the downtown area of Austin, Texas. Their menu is more than just pieces of raw fish, they include a plethora of in-house drink specials and hot grill items. In comparison to other Japanese restaurants in the Austin area, Maiko is one of the few, if not the only that includes a decent grill item menu.

I ate there pretty recent during their stupendous Happy Hour special. Maiko’s Happy Hour runs from 3-close Monday thru Thursday, 3-7 on Friday, Saturday 5-7, and Sunday 5-close. Their Happy Hour special includes discounted appetizers, sushi rolls, and drinks. You can easily take a date here and spend under $40, which is unheard of when eating out at a Japanese restaurant. The service is on point, the final dishes look as if they were serving during peak dinner hours, and the food is delicious. Overall I would give Maiko an A+ comparing to other Japanese/Sushi restaurants in Austin.

If you’re ever in the downtown area and are craving sushi or a quick Japanese bite, head over to Maiko, they will not disappoint.
